After the rain

Los Angeles had its first heavy rain early this week. Autumnal rains usually hearken the onset of a cool down in the temperature and the first sign that wintry condition is in the air. I like this time of the season. I watched the downpour doused the dry brown soil of the hill in front of our office window; and while at the back door, i paused to stare at the sooty water cascading down the embankment and running straight to the nearby canal. This view of the hill at the back parking lot, one might recall, was a scorching victim of a devastating bush fire two months ago.

It had been months of dry and humid spell and now that it rained, little things were brightening like first-time wonders in my eyes. The sky opened up to its bluest and boundless color, and the air sparkled so clear that i'm afraid too much outdoor exposure would bake my skin. Walking in the driveway one morning to start the car, reflection of shiny leaves literally hit my eye; and lo and behold my car looked like it had its first metallic car-wash. Los Angeles rain, though scarce, is sure to wash the smog and the dust away.

On a different kind of celebration, this week ushered in a change on the political arena, i am saying that with optimism, of course. We will have a new president in two months. To say that Barach Obama is inexperienced initially rubs into me, but after reading, hearing, evaluating and comparing his government platforms with the other candidate, i have to choose his for their potentiality and viability. I truly hope and pray that his plans for the country is as convincing as his voice.

One might say that i am having a celebratory week. Bach's hymnal concertos never sound so heavenly, i'm telling you.

A heartfelt, yes, we can! to you, my friend. Well said. As the weather heralds change, so may the election herald change. And may we embrace it for everything it is.

Oh I love that after the rain freshness. I am prone to hyperventilating as I try to breathe it in too vigorously.

Great news about the election. Such a relief.

The rain is a metaphor for washing away the grit and grime and charred pain of the last 8 years.

I have hope.

Peace, JP/deb

We haven't any rain since last week but we could use some more, as there are fires right now on the north counties.

Let me just mention in passing that after the rain stopped, i went to a hilltop observatory that same evening and had a beautiful view of the city on a clear night, and some of the stars are even visible in the sky.
