White Roses

White is for chastity. I have this color in mind when i suggested what flower to bring to our grieving friend; and it has to be roses, the long stemmed ones.

My officemate couldn't care less, knowing very little about the meaning of colors aside from the obvious remark that: "I thought white flowers are for dead people". My priestly explanation of how white can cleanse and spiritualize the soul make a sympathetic sense to her that she agree almost instantly.

So we have the flowers, i counted ten of them, perfection, purity and wholesomeness at its finest, my idea of karmic healing effect, but this time i did not expound the significance.

We are on our way to console our friend whose kids haven't been brought back by his ex-husband. She actually filed a missing person report to the local law enforcement agency because she is afraid his ex may have taken them away or something may have happened to them. Due to the sensitivity of this case, i will not blog pertinent detail any further, but needless to say, the police has been notified and there is a detective handling the investigation, as my friend torturouosly wait for the whereabouts of her kids.

On the car, my officemate was relating how she became an "animal" as soon as she became a parent. The concept is not really hard to understand when compared to the animal kingdom as i've seen angry growls from dogs and other beast when i dare touch one of their puppies; but i guessed it's not that easy to grasp the real concept when one doesn't have kids to protect, to feed and to make sure that their well-being is secured. Coming from a bachelor perspective, the closest thing that i can associate with this "brutal bond" is the way my parents raised us, and i'm talking about the whole nine yards of working and finding the necessary means so me and my brother and sister will be healthy and safe in this brutal world.

And when we finally arrived and handed her the flowers, i saw a faint smile in her eyes, momentary but immaculate, and i couldn't be but happy.

I get the animal thing. Nothing comes between me and my daughter.

The flowers were a perfect gift.

I am not a flowers person but white flowers I love. Somehow they take all the emotion out of my heart and just soothe me. Odd really. So for me, they would definitely have been a good choice.

Just a quick update. My friend got her kids back and she is currently pursuing court actions so she will have full knowledge of her kids whereabouts when her ex takes them away.

We're all animals all the time every day. Any kind of threat will bring up instinctual behavior.

Hope your friend's kids are back home by the time you read this.

And yes about white. It's such a healing color. That's why doctors and nurses wear white (though they may not know it).
