A walk back in the present

I just came from a walk with my dog, or should i say, my dog walking me because of his beastly strength (he is a chocolate brown Chow-mixed); and i have to say that the companionship has been pleasurable enough to sufficiently break the tedium of lackluster and ordinary mindset of the past few days.

Giving affection to someone is truly a dear feeling, and it is quite different with a pet because one does not really expect a complete reciprocity of affection but to some degree, one realizes that the bond between man and animal has a glorious effect to the very bone.

To feel that fresh surge also has the effect of attuning the senses to something one wouldn't normally be keen and appreciate. The lusty scent of the guava leaves on the sidewalk perfumed my nostrils and my mind that the present almost instantaneously dissolves with the liquid memory of the past.

As the evening heat simmers and evaporates from the pavement, i feel transported to the rough and dusty farm of my childhood, where an inconspicuous guava tree swayed and mixed its scent with the other trees. It only takes a whiff to distinguish it from others, and there is an extra added exhilaration for remembering it.

On the contrary I think animals often manage the unconditional love that few of we humans can!

Nor do they shy away from emotional intimacy and being able to look one in the eye.

Chows have sad eyes, and i have to say that after being with him for four years, i can honestly say that that is the feature that still attracts me to him; it does not however hide the moods that trigger his temperament. Tame or wild, he is still my buddy.

Yes, I agree with Poet Laura-eate. I think there is something very special and unique that we can get from our relationships with pets. I know people make fun of people who are close to their animals but I do think that there is a something unique there and that you can truly be yourself with a pet, you never need to put on an act or pretend for a moment. You can be sad when you are sad and happy when you are happy and silent when you want to be.

I have never owned a dog but I really genuinely miss my cat - she is the one thing missing from my life at the moment. I can live without a lover/partner but I do find it difficult to manage without my cat.
